Removing Cat Urine Odor

The process of removing cat urine odor from your home, carpet, furniture or other flooring is not necessarily as easy as you would think.  Unlike some other animals the cat happens to have urine that is extremely potent in its content and can really linger if you don’t get to it and address it as fast as you can.  Cats by nature really like using a litter box but if it is not clean or if the cat is perhaps ill (urinary tract infection) or if it is marking its territory, you could be in for a very long battle of wills.

In most cases the changes to the cats behavior is usually centered on something changing in their environment.  So make sure you are aware of what is changing in your cat and then try to assure your cat that they are still safe and loved.  Also make sure you haven’t changed around the house too much so they feel threatened.  When cats feel threatened they tend to do some acting out and urinating where they do not belong is a primary way for acting out and getting the attention they believe they have lost.

In the case of smells and odors as potent as the cat’s urine you need to fight potency with potency.  One of the most popular home remedies for cat urine uses vinegar as the main ingredient.  Anyone who uses vinegar knows that it has its own special unique and potent smell but it is also very good at removing odors that normally like to linger.  Cat urine would be one of those smells.   Almost all experienced cat owners will tell you that using vinegar is one of the best options that you can have for this particular issue.

Any time you are removing cat urine odor you must start by getting up as much of the urine as you can.  Begin by blotting the urine with paper towels or rags.  Remove as much of the urine as you can.  Then blot one more time, this time by either stepping on the towels or using some weight to get as much as possible before you start the cleanup process.  This is probably the most important step to any cleanup process above and beyond the cleanser you select.

There are many other ways that you might be successful in removing cat urine odor.  There are many other home remedies most of which using the same ingredients.  You will need to find the one that works best with your home situation.  Most will opt for the commercial solution that will impact and affect the stain the most aggressively.   There are also many options that you can get at pet stores and you can try them as well.  Your pet store owner might be able to help you out as well as the Internet and other cat lovers.  It is a normal problem that can be irritating if you do not find a way to eliminate the odor that can be caused by this issue.
