How to Remove Cat Urine Smell

If you have one or more cats then one of the questions you might be asking is how to remove cat urine smell from your home. If you are a cat owner then you will know just how pungent and nasty the smell of cat urine can be and it can also be very difficult to clean up, especially when it comes to getting rid of the odour. Many cleaning products are not designed for getting to the root of the problem with cat urine, but there is no need to buy expensive cleaning products to learn how to remove cat urine smell. All you need is a little know- how, a little elbow grease and a few items which you can find in most household kitchens.

The first step on how to remove cat urine smell is by using fresh lemons. All you have to do is slice in half two or three lemons depending on how much floor space you will be cleaning, and squeeze the juice into a small bowl being sure to remove any pips or lemon flesh. Then sprinkle some of the lemon juice onto the area where the cat has urinated and leave to soak into the carpet for about ten minutes. Then you should take a scrubbing brush and some clean, warm water and scrub the area as hard as you can, really making sure that you get right into the problem with your back. Because lemons contain a natural acid, the juice will soak into the stain and will help to break it down as well as remove the cat urine smell. The good thing about using fresh lemons to clean cat urine and get rid of the smell is that it will leave your home smelling fresher for longer.

Another simple and cheap way of removing the smell of cat urine from your fabrics and carpets is to use fresh herbs. You may have some growing in your garden, if not they are quite cheap to buy from your local grocery store. The best herbs to use for getting rid of the smell of cat urine are rosemary and thyme. But the preference is really up to you, have a sniff of the herbs and decide which smell you like the best. Basil has one of the strongest smelling leaves and would be great for removing cat urine smells as well, however it can be quite overpowering. All you have to do is make an infusion with the herbs by soaking them in boiling water for around ten minutes and then using the water to clean any areas where cat urine has been. This will leave your home smelling fresh and natural for a fraction of the price of cleaning products.
