Cat Urine Odor Removal

Many pet owners struggle each and every day with cat urine odor removal as a result of the accidents that their beloved animals have within the house.  For those who have had cats there is recognition that cat urine is some of the most potent of all animals.  It will linger if it is not dealt with.  There are many potential ways that you can deal with this smelly problem and depending on your wallet some are more expensive than others.  However, no matter how you deal with it, you must clean it up or this new accident location will become your cats new litter box for good.

Almost all home remedies for cat urine odor removal involve any number of products that you can find in your pantry.  Some of these work fairly well but for those pesky odors that will not go away you probably need something a bit more potent and in that case you will have to turn your attention to commercial grade cat urine odor removal products.

Cat urine is persistent almost all remedies include a “repeat two to three times” recommendation.   This is definitely true for home remedies and less so for commercial products.  There is often a need to use something that is stronger than what you might be using in some of the home products that many like to try.

For those industrial products that are on sale for cat urine odor removal the suggestion is that you use one that contains enzymes.  Unlike many other cleaners that tend to just cover up the odor enzymes by their nature eat the odor causing germs.  There are many of them on the market and you need to check the ingredients to make sure they are more than just a masking agent.

A couple rules of thumb.  First you want to keep the litter box clean.  If the litter box is not clean you will run into an issue with this problem every time.  Cats like their box to be clean, sanity and inviting. So getting rid of clumps and other things in the box is advisable.  Secondly you don’t want to stress your cat out because if you do they tend to urinate where they don’t belong as well.  And lastly, if you are adding new people or pets to your household you might want to read up on how to introduce them to your cat with the least amount of stress on both.

It is not always easy to get rid of the smell of cat urine.  In fact, it is one of the toughest smells to get out and you might have to experiment to see which one of the many remedies will work for you and your house and cat.  Not every remedy works for everyone, urine has different potencies and what works for one may not work for you so keep trying and if you cannot find something that works for you make sure you also talk to your veterinarian about the issue if it continues.
